The announced 2027 lineup is four trims: SE, SE with Technology, SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line. SE and SE with Technology can be ordered with front-wheel drive or 4Motion. Both SEL trims come with 4Motion as standard. Volkswagen has also confirmed a new Park Assist system, dual wireless phone charging, available massaging front seats and an available generative AI voice assistant in the cabin.

What IQ.DRIVE actually does
IQ.DRIVE is Volkswagen's name for its bundle of driver assistance features. The important ones are adaptive cruise control, which holds a set gap to the car ahead, and lane centering, which keeps the car between the lines. Volkswagen says the 2027 system is expanded and adds semi-automated driving assistance. On the long, straight run of US 70 out toward Kinston, that is the difference between arriving relaxed and arriving stiff.
Seven airbags, including one you have not had before
The front center airbag is new. It deploys between the driver and front passenger in a side impact, so the two front occupants do not strike each other. It is a small change on a spec sheet and a meaningful one in a crash.
More power, better mileage, no plug
Normally more horsepower costs you fuel economy. Here it did not. The 2027 Atlas gains 13 horsepower and still rates 25 mpg combined in front-wheel drive on fueleconomy.gov. There is no hybrid version and no plug involved. It is a gas engine that was reworked rather than replaced.
